![]() ![]() Maybe it’s just a cosmetic piece that looks like a folding stock. But maybe the E-11 doesn’t have a folding stock you say. Here’s what the Sterling looks like unfolded. See how the Sterling has that same piece under the barrel? It’s a folding stock. The Imperial E-11 was based on the British Sterling submachine gun, produced from 1944-1945. As a gun nut, I have a bunch of fun watching the originals and spotting real world guns that have a bunch of sci-fi components welded on, like Boba Fett’s EE-3 Webley & Scott № 1 Mark I Flare Gun from WWI. See that piece on the underside of the barrel that runs parallel to it? With what looks like a foregrip on the front? That is the real buttstock of an E-11/F-11D.īack during the development of the Original Trilogy, Hollywood loved to repurpose old surplus WWII era weapons for sci-fi movies, and Star Wars was no exception. But on the outside, the weapons are almost identical. On the surface, the First Order’s F-11D is an obvious descendent of the Empire’s E-11 blaster rifle, probably containing some internal technological upgrades. It’s still an unnecessary addition to her blaster. She could just be using it to brace against her shoulder to stabilize her shots. But Star Wars could just have something that looks like a recoil compensating stock. You know what a laser gun doesn’t have? Any kind of recoil. Inside of it is a buffer tube with a spring, designed to cycle the bolt of a semi-automatic weapon and take a lot of the recoil off of your shoulder when you shoot. First of all, that’s an AR-15 recoil compensating stock. Looks pretty “tacticool”, doesn’t it? Most modern infantry rifles have stocks just like that, why shouldn’t hers? Well, let me tell you, it’s completely unnecessary for a couple of reasons. The first thing that sticks out to me is that buttstock on the back. Looks pretty cool, right? Well, as a gun guy, let me tell you why it’s a completely terribly designed weapon. I want to take a moment to talk about Captain Phasma’s shiny, chrome-plated blaster rifle. ![]()
